Flashback Pheasant Tail
A high-visibility twist on one of the most trusted nymphs ever created. With a bright reflective back, this pattern pops in stained water, low light or when trout need that little extra something to commit. It imitates mayfly nymphs, small swimmers, and general trout snacks - making it a year-round essential.
When to fish it: Fish it anytime you want a nymph to stand out just a little bit more than the traditional. This could be early season cold water when fish want the subtle flash, murky or off color conditions, Bright afternoons when a touch of shine will help the trigger strikes, hatches running spring through fall or winter nymphing when the fish want small but noticeable.
How to fish it: Use as a point fly in a 2 fly setup, as a dropper under an indicator, in slow and controlled drifts (fishes best when it can stay low and steady movement).
Why I love it: The full flashback adds confidence without overpowering the natural profile. It gets seen, gets eaten, and stays durable even after multiple fish. It's one of those flies you tie on when the water isn't perfect and the trout need some help to notice the presentation. It is simple, effective and plain deadly.
